Leisure Activities around Fontainebleau, Ile de France
800 years of history! Fontainebleau is not the castle of a sovereign, but that of each of them, a “family home” of the kings of France, handed down from generation to generation from the Middle Ages to the 19th century.
The Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is the creation of three artists brought together by Nicolas Fouquet, superintendent of finances to Louis XIV: the gardener André Le Nôtre, the architect Louis Le Vau and the painter-decorator Charles Le Brun. Resulting from the fraternal genius of these three men, the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte is a model whose majesty and balance will inspire the Palace of Versailles and the whole of Europe for centuries.
Today the Vogüé family is a model of commitment and passion, determined to preserve this historical heritage and to share this masterpiece with its visitors.
A medieval fortress in a charming village! An exceptional and rare site that takes you back to the 13th century. A wonderfully restored stronghold, unique in Île-de-France.
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this medieval city owes its fame to the famous Champagne fairs in the 12th and 13th centuries, when all of Europe flocked to sell and buy fabrics, spices and other foodstuffs.
800 years later, the city with remarkably well-preserved fortifications has lost none of its epic atmosphere. Punctuated from April to November with its colorful shows, its Medieval festival in June and its Christmas market, Provins promises you a real dive into the heart of the Middle Ages without leaving the 21st century.
Created in 1983 in honor of the most famous gypsy jazz musician, the Django Reinhardt jazz festival brings you together every year to celebrate jazz!
Since 2017, the Château de Fontainebleau has hosted this summer event in the Bois d’Hyver meadow. It was also very close to Fontainebleau that Django Reinhardt bought a house and settled in Samois-sur-Seine in 1951.
Located just 1 hour south of Paris, the forest of Fontainebleau offers an astonishing diversity of landscapes. Precious for its inhabitants and its many visitors, it is a fabulous natural heritage to be discovered with respect and kindness.
